    Scarlet Legacy Award

PISCATAWAY (June 4, 2024) — John RC’67 and Barbara Broggi were honored as the recipients of the 2024 Scarlet Legacy Award at the ninth annual Scarlet Knight on the Banks on Tuesday. The Legacy Award is presented to supporters who have made a lifetime impact on Rutgers student-athletes through generosity, involvement, and commitment.

The annual Scarlet Knight on the Banks event is a signature event hosted by R Fund that honors Scarlet Society members and All-America level donors for their contributions and continued support for the student-athlete experience.

The Scarlet Knight on the Banks was emceed by football alums Devin and Jason McCourty, with over 300 Rutgers Athletics supporters, administrators, coaches, and student-athletes in attendance. Senior running back Kyle Monangai delivered a passionate keynote speech about the student-athlete experience at Rutgers, which set the tone for an exciting night of celebration for guests of honor, John and Barbara Broggi.

“The joy and love that we felt last night was beyond belief,” Barbara Broggi said upon receiving the award. “R Fund planned a fantastic evening.”

“To receive the Scarlet Legacy Award was great, but the way R Fund handled it was even better,” John Broggi said.

Their dedication to the Scarlet Knights was sparked by a women’s basketball game in 2001 against undefeated Notre Dame. The upset victory over the Fighting Irish has led to a more than two decades relationship with Rutgers Athletics.

The Broggi’s have supported the program in countless ways, including scholarships and providing the naming rights gift to the women’s basketball office. They are season ticket holders for football, men’s and women’s basketball, often traveling to road games to watch their beloved Scarlet Knights.

The Broggi’s name is woven into the Rutgers fabric, offering their generous support to initiatives in athletics and across the university. The Broggi connection to Rutgers University runs deep with John becoming the first in the family to earn a college degree in 1967. Since his time ‘On the Banks,’ five more Broggi’s have gone on to share his alma mater with his children and grandchildren earning degrees.

The Scarlet Knight on the Banks also featured speeches by Aidan Flynn from men’s soccer, Amira Badawi and Naomi Karki from tennis and football letterwinner Joe Donato. Antonia Bates from women’s basketball and Ellie Reigner from women’s lacrosse got the evening started, hosting the red carpet arrivals to Jersey Mike’s Arena.
